• Dongguan ranks 13th in online shopping environment

  • According to a report released by Taobao (China's largest online shopping website) on 17th July, Dongguan was ranked 13th of all domestic cities in terms of online shopping trends. Ranks were based on economic conditions, population, consumer spending, income, and internet penetration.

    Taobao confirmed their report divided 2,300 domestic cities into six levels with Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen categorised as first-tier cities. Except for Foshan, Dongguan is the only non-provincial capital city among the 24 second-tier cities.

    Online shopping in third-tier cities and lower remain confined to clothing, cosmetics and digital products, whereas first and second-tier cities tend to have more confidence in online shopping. First and second-tier demands tend to be more diversified and personalized, broaching into daily life related areas such as local services.
