  • On Saturday 7th July, a consular delegation from Guangzhou, led by Ethiopia's Consul-General Mr. Gebremichael G/Tsadik, attended a lychee tasting activity in Dongguan’s Zhangmutou Township. The delegation consisted of nearly 100 consular officers and family members from 23 countries, such as America, UK, South Korea, Argentina, Italy, Singapore, and the Philippines. Consul-Generals of Singapore, India, Greece, Thailand, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Turkey, and Iran also attended the activity.

On behalf of the Dongguan government, Vice-Mayor Wu Daowen hosted a welcome lunch, and gave a speech concerning Dongguan’s current economic and social developments. He said that ties and exchange with foreign Consulates in Guangzhou have been strengthened via the customary annual practice for Dongguan to host a “Diplomat Cup” Golf Tournament and invite Consul-Generals in Guangzhou to taste Dongguan lychee every year. Dongguan has already initiated bilateral problem solving projects together with Japanese, Korean, American, Australian, Singaporean and other European Consulates in Guangzhou in efforts to remedy typical concerns foreign investors may encounter in Dongguan. Wu suggested that Dongguan strengthen cooperation with other countries, using Consulates General in Guangzhou as a bridge across the gulf.

Though the lychee tasting activity is held every year, Mr. Gebremichael G/Tsadik still did not want to miss it. He said the activity provided information on Dongguan’s cultural and economic achievements and was a good way for cultural exchange with different countries.
