Earlier this month, 50,000 Dongguan residents received new social security cards, which will integrate social welfare, finance, and health care into one card.
"One million new social security cards will be distributed in large amounts within this year. And they are expected to issue over 6.5 million within three years," said related authorities from Dongguan's Social Security Bureau.
The new social security card will be able to make payments for medical treatments at designated hospitals in the healthcare system, and may also function as the diagnosis and treatment card. Holders will benefit in time and convenience by just having one card to handle registrations, record medical treatments, and process on-site medical insurance.
The card will also have the ability to act as a method of payment at point-of-sale's, similar to a debit card, and be capable of making withdrawals and deposits at other locations.
