  • From 12th to 16th July, a delegation of government and enterprise representatives led by Mr. Xu Jianhua (Dongguan's Party Chief) conducted a scientific exchange and economic trade inspection tour in Germany

The delegation visited the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Research Association (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Frderung der angewandten Forschung) and Spinner Machine Tool Factory Ltd. They also met with Professor Gunther Trankle, Director of Ferdinand-Braun Institute and Mayoral Economic Advisor of Dongguan City.

During the morning of 16th July, the delegation took part in the Dongguan-Wuppertal 2012 Investment and Dialogue Conference to promote Dongguan's investment environment and negotiate future cooperation regarding certain industries and talents. The delegation was warmly received by the deputy mayor, the council leader of Wuppertal and by the counsellor for scientific and technological affairs of China's Consulate-General in Frankfurt. Mr. Liu Ning (Deputy Secretary-General of Dongguan Government) awarded the "Business Promotion Representative of Dongguan in Wuppertal" plaque to the Germany company "China Window".

Xu said that Dongguan's industrial structuring shares certain similarities with Wuppertal. With the manufacturing industry a central pillar to both, each city faces an urgent need for industrial transform and upgrade. Wuppertal's experiences are worthy models from which Dongguan can learn, and this provides a common ground for the two cities to cooperate on joint developments. Xu highlighted the importance for Dongguan to realize transformation and upgrade via scientific and technological innovation, and personnel training. He hoped that the two cities will strengthen exchange and cooperation across industries but specifically in economics, technology and education. It is hoped this will create a mutually strong symbiotic relationship, with gains for both sides. Five agreements were signed at the end of the conference regarding areas of cooperation between Dongguan and Wuppertal.
