  • On Friday 29th June, Mr. He Yu (Vice-Mayor of Dongguan) met with a delegation led by Mr. Samuel Tam from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Fossil Energy. Both parties exchanged views on topics such as the development of clean energy in Dongguan, and IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) demonstration projects in Dongguan.

Introducing Dongguan City to the delegation He Yu said, "Dongguan is an open city which has attracted investors from all corners of the world. There are 38,000 industrial enterprises and 12,000 foreign-invested enterprises in Dongguan". He added: "Dongguan has always paid attention to environmental concerns by intensifying research of clean energy sources and increasing the percentage of clean energy being used in day to day energy consumption."

Samuel Tam spoke about the research and development of IGCC and TRIG (Transport Integrated Gasification) technology in the U.S. He hoped that the delegation would be able to continue to offer guidance after Dongguan's IGCC project is completed so that all concerned could look towards potential national adoption.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited power and chemical IGCC demonstration projects in Dongguan's Daojiao Township. Samuel Tam hopes to return to Dongguan later this year when the project begins operation.
